Your CV has stood out from the crowd and caught the eye of a potential employer. Now's the hard part - The Interview.

This is your chance to shine and to sell yourself. It's an opportunity to expand your CV and further show that you are the right person for the job. Thorough preparation is essential and that's why we have provided you with some tips to guide you through the interview process.

During the Interview

5. Do not chew gum. Ideally leave your phone in your car or in your bag (if you took one) so that this isn't a distraction.

6. Body language is also a factor that an interviewer will consider. Your body language will show your true expression about something. Be open with your expressions and arms. Do not cross your arms across your body as this may give of impression of your not been interested or engaged in the conversation.

7. A good firm handshake is important. Along with eye contact this shows a sign of confidence.

8.Try to avoid 'erms' and abbreviations, slowing your speaking may help with this. Try not to repeat yourself.

Before the Interview

1. Do your homework on the company and get an idea of what they do, make or sell. Going to an employer's website will show you what they do but will also provide news about the company which you can reference in your interview. This may include them announcing a new contract or recent achievements.

 

2. Re-read the job description and remind yourself of what the role entails. You may also find within this a basis for some questions.

3. Make sure you know your own CV and work history. An employer may use this as a talking point within your interview or as a tool to find out more about your skill set.

4. On the day of your interview, make sure that you are dressed presentably and professionally. It is good practice to arrive 10 - 15 mins before your scheduled interview time. Ensure that you leave enough time for travelling and don't forger to consider additional time for traffic and parking.

9. Try to anticipate the questions an interviewer may ask. These may be about the company, yourself or your ambitions.

10. You may be asked if you have questions so it also best to have some prepared. You can ask about the job role and the company. This is also a an opportunity to promote yourself , along with any qualities / experiences that make you the ideal candidate.

11. Thank the Interviewer for their time and for the opportunity.
